Indian Military Academy

SSB Interview Process

The Services Selection Board (SSB) is a 5-day comprehensive personality and intelligence assessment used to select officers for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. It evaluates 15 Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) through various tests and tasks.

Day 1

Screening Test

OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating)

50 questions in 30 minutes - Tests verbal and non-verbal intelligence

PPDT (Picture Perception & Description Test)

View picture for 30 sec → Write story (4 min) → Group discussion

⚠️ Only screened-in candidates proceed to next stages

Day 2

Psychological Tests

TAT (Thematic Apperception Test)

12 pictures - 30 sec view + 4 min story writing per picture

WAT (Word Association Test)

60 words - 15 seconds per word to write first thought

SRT (Situation Reaction Test)

60 situations - 30 minutes to write your reactions

SDT (Self Description Test)

Write about yourself, parents' opinion, friends' opinion, teachers' opinion

Personal Interview (30-45 min)

Conducted by Interviewing Officer - Questions about background, interests, current affairs, and OLQs assessment

Day 3-4

GTO Tasks (Group Testing Officer)

GD (Group Discussion)

Discussion on given topics - tests communication and leadership

GPE (Group Planning Exercise)

Group plans solution for a military problem with map

PGT (Progressive Group Task)

Series of 4 obstacles with progressive difficulty

HGT (Half Group Task)

Similar to PGT but with half the group members

Lecturette

3-minute lecture on given topic (3 topics, choose 1)

Individual Obstacles

10 obstacles to complete in specified time

Command Task

Lead subordinates to complete obstacle task

FGT (Final Group Task)

Most difficult task involving entire group

Personal Interview (30-45 min)
