How to Clear the Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT)
PPDT is the core test of Stage-1 Screening in the SSB interview. You are shown a hazy or blurred picture for 30 seconds. You have 1 minute to fill the character box (Age, Gender, Mood) and write the action, followed by 5 minutes to write a complete story.
1
30-Second Observation: Note the background setting, number of characters, their approximate age, gender, and emotional mood (+ for positive, 0 for neutral, - for negative). Circle the main hero.
2
5-Minute Story Writing: Structure your story logically:
- Background: What led up to the situation (2–3 lines).
- Action: What the main character actively plans, executes, and coordinates to solve the problem (5–6 lines).
- Outcome: What is the positive and realistic resolution (1–2 lines).
3
1-Minute Individual Narration: Narrate fluently without stammering or looking at the assessors. Speak directly to your group members with confidence.
4
Group Discussion (GD): Listen actively, support good points, and calmly help the group arrive at a common consensus story.
